La Guadalupana is easy to drive past, a small storefront in an unremarkable shopping center on Dunlavy. Stop anyway. It is a family-style Mexican bakery and cafe where the pastry case is stocked with pan dulce each morning and the kitchen sends out comfort food: migas, huevos rancheros, huaraches, carne guisada, machaca nortena, and enchiladas de espinaca con queso. The mole enchiladas have a following of their own. On weekends the staff drags extra tables and chairs outside to handle the brunch crowd, and nobody minds waiting a few minutes with a cup of the cinnamon-spiced coffee. Prices stay gentle, portions do not, and the room feels like a neighborhood kitchen that happens to be open to everyone.
