Otto Sanchez did pastry at the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, came home to run the pastry program at La Table in 2014, and opened Magnol in 2019. It calls itself Houston's organic breadmaker, and its croissants and baguettes supply a good share of the city's best dining rooms, among them Le Jardinier, Rosie Cannonball and Ostia. The retail shop is a small counter in a Spring Branch center off North Post Oak, and the pastry case is fullest in the morning. Start with a plain butter croissant to see the lamination, then add the almond croissant and pain au chocolat, a seasonal fruit tart, and a baguette to take home.
