You find Captain Foxheart's by looking for the unassuming door on the 300 block of Main Street and climbing the stairs. Justin Burrow, Brad Moore and Ryan Rouse opened it in April 2013, and it quickly became the downtown bar other bartenders recommend. Inside there is a long wooden bar, high ceilings and records spinning; outside there is a balcony that hangs over Main Street and the METRORail line, with the old downtown buildings lit up around you. The drinks are serious without being fussy, and the crowd mixes lawyers from the courthouses, musicians and neighborhood regulars. Come for one and you will probably stay for the second on the balcony.
What to expect
- Look for a blacked-out door marked as a lawyer's office; a line often forms outside.
- Access is by a narrow staircase, so it is not wheelchair accessible.
