Johnny's Gold Brick opened on Yale Street in March 2015, taking its name as a nod to Billy's Gold Brick, the icehouse and burger joint that once stood on the site. Owner Benjy Mason, a chef by training, wanted a true neighborhood bar that happened to make great cocktails, and that is exactly what it feels like: dark wood, a friendly crowd, a patio out front and bartenders who remember regulars. The menu changes with the seasons and plays well with both cocktail people and folks who just want a cold beer and a shot. It is an easy stop after a stroll through the Heights, and a good place to watch the neighborhood roll through on a weekend afternoon.
