White Oak Music Hall is the heart of Houston's touring indie, rock, hip-hop and electronic calendar. The complex covers five acres on North Main, with an intimate Upstairs room, a larger Downstairs hall and a big outdoor Lawn that looks back toward the downtown skyline. On a mild October or November night, with a good band on the Lawn and the towers glowing behind the crowd, it is hard to beat. The booking runs from buzzy new acts to cult heroes, and the calendar stretches from September into the following spring. Arrive early to grab a spot near the sound booth, and check whether your show is inside or out, because the experience is very different.
What to expect
- Most shows are general admission and standing; a few offer reserved seats.
- No chairs on the sloped Lawn, and shows go on rain or shine.
- Under 15 needs a guardian; bags over 14 inches are refused and all are searched.
- Cashless for tickets and bars; mobile tickets only, no will-call, no re-entry.
- Lots are small; on Lawn nights park on side streets, or ride the Red Line to Quitman.
