The Continental Club opened on Main Street in Midtown in July 2000, a sister to the famous Austin club that dates back to the 1950s, at a time when this stretch of Main was mostly empty. Owner Steve Wertheimer bet on the block anyway, and the club helped turn it into one of Houston's best nights out. Today it bills itself as Houston's oldest independently run rock and roll venue. Expect a long bar, a dance floor that fills up fast, vintage neon, and a lineup of local heroes and touring roots acts playing blues, soul, country, surf and rockabilly. Covers are modest, the crowd is all ages over 21, and nobody minds if you dance badly.
