The Mucky Duck is where Houston goes to hear a song properly. It is a real Irish pub with a full kitchen and bar, but at showtime the room turns into one of the city's best listening rooms, with tables close to the stage and an audience that knows to keep the chatter down. The calendar leans folk, Americana, Texas singer-songwriters, blues and jazz, with names like Bob Schneider, Chris Smither and Sam Baker coming through. The Wednesday Irish session is free, and December brings holiday sing-alongs. The Monday open mic is not currently hosted. Order a pint and a plate, settle in, and you will understand why musicians love playing here.
What to expect
