Blacksmith opened on lower Westheimer in 2013, a collaboration between Chris Shepherd's Underbelly group and the team at Greenway Coffee, and it quickly became the Montrose default for a proper espresso drink and something good to eat with it. The baristas are happy to talk you through the day's specials, and the drinks list reaches past coffee to loose-leaf teas. The food punches above a coffee shop: a sausage, egg, and biscuit sandwich that some consider the city's best, plus pastries by chef Christina Au, whose banana bread and marble loaf go fast. Order the cane sugar latte, grab a stool, and watch the neighborhood cycle through. A second location opened in the Memorial City office district in 2024.
