MFAH于1924年开馆，当时只有60件作品，门楣上刻着“Erected by the people for the use of the people”（由人民建造，供人民使用）。如今，它占地14英亩的Sarofim Campus收藏了近80,000件作品，建筑本身就占了一半看头。Caroline Wiess Law Building把最初的新古典主义馆舍与Mies van der Rohe设计的Cullinan Hall和Brown Pavilion连在一起，这是他在美国设计的唯一一座博物馆。Main Street对面，是Rafael Moneo设计、2000年落成的石灰岩Beck Building，收藏欧洲和美国艺术，包括梵高的《The Rocks》。两馆之间，从地下穿过James Turrell的《The Light Inside》，一条色彩缓缓变幻的隧道。另一条隧道，Carlos Cruz-Diez的《Cromosaturacion》，把你带到Steven Holl设计的Kinder Building，它裹着一层半透明的玻璃管，专门展出1900年以后的艺术。记得留点时间给Bissonnet对面、由野口勇（Isamu Noguchi）设计的Cullen Sculpture Garden。
体验要点
- 包须小于11 x 6 x 15英寸；不能带拉杆箱或长柄伞。
- 婴儿车和前抱式背带可以；拖车和滑板车不行。
- METRORail Red Line的Museum District站就在博物馆旁边。
- 停车楼：Beck在1144 Binz，Glassell在5101 Montrose，Kinder在5500 Main。
- Kinder Building里的Cafe Leonelli供应咖啡、糕点、披萨和三明治。
